Panoramic Encaustics

Just completed these new panoramic encaustic photos today in time for restocking the MCAD art sale. I actually used old book shelf boards I had lying around and kept the groove from the shelf on top of the piece. The boards are great, really heavy and a nice color.
Tsaritsyno Bridge is 11x30 and Yakovlevsky Monastery is 11x25.

Burning -Illustration Friday-

The idea behind this piece is the tormented soul. Like a shadow it follows you everywhere, always connected, always a part of you. Burning.
A mixed media piece. Three photographs for the figure, watercolor and lots of ink.

MCAD Art Sale!

I'm franticly making encaustics for this years MCAD art sale taking place one week before Thanksgiving. Yes, I procrastinated so now I have to make five original pieces a week. I've got 14 pieces finished so far and one week left to go. So I don't think I'm going to make it to 25 pieces because yes, I'm still kind of procrastinating. I'll just have to print up some illustrations to add to the pile. So here are some of the encaustics I've been doing. There are a few new ones this year.

Riding in Style

Here's one I did earlier this year that I thought I'd post again because it works so well with the topic of "transportation" for this weeks Illustration Friday.

Pick of the Week!

Wow, I've been chosen as pick of the week on Illustration Friday!
When I saw the topic of "beneath" I knew this piece would suit it well. It's still one of my favorites.

Wanna Hang?

A Halloween card I'm gonna send out as a promotional piece. I'll probably use "Wanna Hang" for the inside line.

Old Flame

I'm starting a series of burlesque characters, this being the first. An old fashioned feel with a futuristic twist.

I'm finally starting to work on the papooses again. It's been a while since I've felt the urge to illustrate for the simple joy of it. But bam, it finally hit me. Here I have two variations; one with photographic face, the other drawn. I think I'm liking the drawn version better.

The Magic Nesting Doll

A friend found this book at Half Price Books and let me borrow it so I could scan some in for my inspirations file. These illustrations by Laurel Long are so amazing. Like a combining of Russian lacquer boxes and Botticelli. Here are my favorites.

Lives That May Have Been

Up until this point
I thought it was over
this loss of hope and wonder
Of the life that may have been
the lives that may have been
Up until now
Our roads were one
my little hand was in yours
Salt water air was in my dreams
While I drowned in your voice.
I drowned
I've drowned
You stayed afloat
With outstretched hand
no longer encased
but lifted up
and released.
I can't reach
I haunt the Oceans with lost fishermen.

My new personal logo

Some logos I've been working on for a local health clinic. They like the FN ones which I'm happy about because those are my favorite too. I had no idea, but logos are fun!

Matroshka Dolls

Here are some of my versions of the Russia Matroshka Doll or Nesting Doll. Please forgive me for defiling the good name of traditional Matroshka...everyone's doing it.

New Website

Finally finished my new illustration website. It's clean and simple which I like, but I'll probably be updating it now and then to spice it up a bit. But for now, here it is.
