Past Time - Encaustic Photo with rice paper and pattern

My favorite piece out my Coastal fog collection...well, one of my favorites anyway. I'm starting to experiment with adding pattern designs to open backgrounds. This particular pattern was made by my husband. Hard to see the details in this image, but this piece incorporates rice paper over the photo in order to add some texture and grit. I love the roughness of this piece. I ALMOST hope it doesn't sell at the MCAD art sale next week.

Encaustic Russian Decorative Windows

Just added a series of framed decorative Russian Windows to my Etsy site. These photos were taken during my travels in Rostov, Russia. The dachas in this quaint village all had a unique set of windows of their own. They made even the shabbiest of dachas charming.

Papoose

Back to illustration! The start of autumn and the inevitability of hibernation makes me want to cozy up with my paints and start new projects. Here is a series of papooses which I plan on continuing. There will be a multitude by the end of winter!

Birchwood Cafe Installation

Last night we finished installing my new show at the Birchwood Cafe. It looks great! The subject matter and style fit in perfectly with cafe's look. These eleven pieces are from my Point Reyes Coastal Fog series.

Antique Window Series I

I'm beginning a new series using salvaged antique windows as the frame. This is the start of the first one using a photo of an old Ukrainian barn photo with a pattern in the background. I'm using a thin mulberry paper which allows for the image to become somewhat transparent when saturated with encaustic medium and held up to light. It's turing out exactly as I was hoping it would!

In the studio

Carving a 30x30" piece for Gallery 360. On display starting this Saturday evening. It's a brand new collaborative piece using a pattern my husband David Bearon created.

Here are a few of the encaustic photos I'll have at this years Art-A Whirl. I'm working on making a large selection of smaller pieces for the show.
