New Encaustic - Minnehaha Falls Creek

This photograph was taken during the first blizzard this 2013 winter in Minnesota at the beautiful Minnehaha Falls park. Not an easy park to get to through deep snow and steep stairs. I think I've decided this piece will be entered into the Minnesota State Fair fine arts exhibit for this year.

My first snowy birthday

I'm pretty sure I've never had a birthday blizzard. I suppose I can't consider four inches a blizzard though. Yesterday ended up being a great birthday. Woke up early to beautiful snow covered trees and dragged David out of bed (he has to do what I want on my b-day), hoped into warm clothes and drove 10min. to Crosby Park by the Mississippi River. The snow was already slowly melting, but I was able to capture some nice photos. It was a great way to start the day.

Rustic Canadian Farmstead Photographs

I've been meaning to work with these barn photographs I shot years ago during a trip to Alberta, Canada. Many of these barns were abandoned Ukrainian farmsteads, some still in use. I've "roughed up" these images to make a series of rustic/vintage looking prints. Maybe I should dip them in coffee too? Oldschool.

April Blizzards

Another April snow day in Minnesota. I won't complain though; I was able to drive over to Long Lake to trudge through the snow and find some nice shots. I love the quiet after a blizzard. Here's a few of the shots I took. Potential encaustics.

Poppy Progress

Lots and lots of carving on this one. I've been dreaming of doing this large scale poppy piece forever and am really enjoying working on this. The last image shows the piece as of today. A few more finishing touches and then a black frame.

Encaustics- Icelandic Poppies

I've been wanting to make an encaustic of poppies all year. I ran across a few last summer but didn't have my camera handy and missed out. So I've been dreaming of finding some again all winter. Last week when I went to the Como Conservatory they had these Icelandic Poppies! So thrilled. Probably took 200 photos of these beauties. Here is the smallest one I'll be doing (6x6). I'm working on much larger ones now which I'll post about soon.

Northern Geometrics

Here's David's and my first official collaborative encaustic. I started with one of my Como Park landscapes, David drew in the geos, then I layered the wax, creating the sunken circle and finished with carving the tree and areas of the geos.

All of Our Beeswax- Launch

My husband David and I have launched our collaborative endeavor on Etsy today. Our shop, All of Our Beeswax, is primarily dedicated to my encaustic photography and David's encaustic paintings. We'll be opening a section soon with pieces we've done together which are proving to be pretty cool. I'm slowly adding more pieces throughout the week. So far I've added my botanical series and small Minnesota winter landscapes. More to come!
